    Benoit Pioulard - "Lasted" 2010

Now, for something more quiet. Thomas Meluch goes by the name Benoit Pioulard and I'm not particularly sure why, but one thing I'm sure of is he creates beautiful music. Although born in Michigan, Meluch now resides in Portland, Oregon, and composes a soundscape of lo-fi, ambient field recordings and quietly strummed, quiet, droning songs.

What? He lives in Portland and creates quiet ambient music? Sound familiar? His music is not much different than local Portland ambient droning music mistress Liz Harris, better known as Grouper. The one main difference between Grouper and Benoit Pioulard is Pioulard's orchestrations manage to sound hopeful while keeping quiet and minimalist whereas Grouper's are more sad and crushingly depressing.

Either way this is a beautiful record and you should let it sing your to sleep tonight.
